Under Our Wings - A Community Service Event - Well Done
Well, it is the "days after" this big event and I have to admit that I am quite happy it is behind us -- we're TIRED. However, that is not to say that I''m not pleased with the event. Quite the contrary! Things pretty much went off without a hitch, and we had an amazing response from the community quilters with over 30 in attendance on Friday evening and over 40 participants on Saturday! WOW! And these ladies and gentlemen were not just from Riverton. Nope, we had quilters from Dubois, Lander, Pavillion, and Shoshoni. Lea and I learned much about putting on an event, and while we're not ready to plan the next one just yet, we will be better prepared for it next year.
There were 20 quilt tops completed by 4 pm Saturday and several more that are quite close to completion. We had a great time visiting, a good time sewing, and a fine time eating good food, thanks so much to the Breadboard and The Caterers (Rowena Bland and Susan Skidmore).
Because of our sponsors we were able to accomplish so much for our soldiers. Our co-host and "3-Star General" level sponsor was Rocky Mountain Service Bureau, Inc. of Rock Springs. Thanks, Dawn, for such generous support! The Breadboard, Short Construction, The Caterers (Rowena Bland) and Susan Skidmore, and Jim Logan were our Major General supporters. At the Master Sergeant contributor level we had Summit Sheet Metal, Fabrizius Insurance Agency, Natural Health Solutions, Berg Accounting, and Sweetwater Garden Company. Private First Class Contributors were Rodney's Collision and Custom Center and Dennis and Heather Christensen. Individual contributors included: Cynthia & LeRoy Griewahn, Butch & Margie Metcalf, Mike and Kathi Miller, Designs by ME, Cinde Pfisterer, Cooper Consulting, Joanna Chapter of the United Methodist Women, Frank and Jeannie Tanner, Chestine Brohm, Prudy Shelley, Betsy Milek, Betty Lou Henson, Dot Schuiling, Lea Delay, Suzanne Allen, and Matt Geraud. Last but not least was June Moore and the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
While I'm thinking of it, I'd greatly appreciate assistance from the community in finding those veterans who have been overseas and have seen action, especially our wounded warriors. Fremont County has men and women who have returned from duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Korea, and World War II, it is just difficult to identify them and make contact to see if they are willing to receive a quilt in a public venue to thank them for their extreme service and sacrifice in serving our great country. Please, if you have friends, family, neighbors who fit the bill, contact them, ask them if they'd be willing to receive a Quilt of Valor quilt, then ask them to contact me. I'd really appreciate it.
So, for as long as there is a need, Sheep Camp Quilt Supply is committed to continue trying to provide quilts of comfort and appreciation for our service men and women. Keep this event in mind next year, and I hope you'll join us. It is a great feeling knowing you are doing something for folks who have done so much for our freedoms. May God bless each of them, their families, and the rest of the United States of America. And, thanks again to all those who participated this last weekend! My hat is off to each of you for spending a beautiful weekend with us!
May God keep you, until next time,
Stephanie
